My old baggy friend!
So I have this big, baggy, slightly bobbly, out of shape, jumper…
All my friends and family know it, its the one I always gravitate to the minute i walk through the front door or when i am tired, feeling run down, on a couch potato day or just feel like I need a big relaxing hug. Its my comfort zone and I love it!
We all have this, either a favourite pair of baggies or an old cardigan or even a slouchy old t-shirt. When you put it on you are ready to relax and chill and It feels like an old friend. This is exactly what your actual comfort zone feels like. Warm, comfy, cozy and familiar so much so that you never want to come out of it.
Now imagine getting ready to go out for an evening to a new swanky club, you have been chilling all day in your comfy, cozy, old favourite and now its time to get dressed up to the nines. You seem reluctant at first, you have been cozy all day and really don’t want to leave that lovely warm fuzzy feeling but you drag yourself up to get dressed anyway.
Fast forward a couple of hours and you are ready for a night on the town. You feel amazing, you look your best, yes your feet might be slightly uncomfortable with the new shoes you are wearing but what the heck, its definitely worth the discomfort and you feel ready to take on the world. You have an amazing time and are so glad that you pushed yourself to do it and get out there.
This is actually what it feels like to be coached. When we feel stretched or challenged in some way, we want to immediately retreat into that warm, cozy, fuzzy, world that feels safe and comforting. Its what we know, its safe and familiar. But ask yourself, are you growing? Are you being the best you can be? Can you be more? Can you be amazing?
Only you can decide. Coming out of your comfort zone is scary, like wearing the new shoes, it can be uncomfortable, its not your default, its not familiar to you. But it can be so worth it! It can push and challenge you to really experience life on your terms. Be whatever you want to be, really reach the your full potential and achieve amazing things.
So if this has resonated with you, you have been through coaching or you have had similar experiences, I would love to hear your story in the comments below?
Lots of love
